  1. Calves 1–5 were given colostrum free from BVDV antibodies, and calves 6–9 were given colostrum from their respective antibody positive dams. Samples collected day 0 were taken before intake of colostrum. BVDV antibody titres were determined using a commercial indirect ELISA (SVANOVA Biotech AB, Uppsala, Sweden) in dilutions 1:10–1:1250.
