  1. Fully open = distinct radiolucent line spanning the entire extent of the physis; fully closed = no radiolucency in the region of the physis. The Radiographic closure time was defined as the age range from the youngest horse observed with a fully closed physis, to the age after which all further horses had a fully closed physis. Single outliers which were in the "closing stage" are in parenthesis.
