  1. Ligation of ten loops (1-10) was done in the ileum and the jejunum, respectively. All three types of inocula applied were exposed for 1, 3 and 6 h, while only at 6 h a negative control was included (loop No. 4). The concentration of Lawsonia intracellularis in the inocula is shown in the table; 5 ml of inoculum were used for each loop.
