  1. Shown are the data distributions of the 20 measured cytokines that were within detection limits for the sample types (Sample) serum (S), heparin-plasma (H), heparin-plasma added 10 μl heparin (H10) and EDTA-plasma (E), showing if data were normally (ND) or non-normally distributed (NND). The number of samples was 5–6 in each group. P-values and asymptotic significances of a repeated measured ANOVA (Table 2A) or Friedman test (Fried.) with a Wilcoxon-signed rank test (Table 2B) are given with significant values highlighted in bold type. The conclusion is shown for each cytokine, where NS signifies no significant difference between sample types. Where significant differences were found the sample types are listed in increasing or decreasing order based on their mean values. Three cytokines (IL-4, IL-5 and GM-CSF) were above the detection limit and were not included in the analysis.
