Four reindeer herding areas were assigned from south to north (1–4) and cooperatives were named according to their east/west location in the numbered area (W West, M middle, E East). These cooperatives, from south to north were: 1W, 1M, 1E, 2E, 2W; 3E, 3W, 4W, 4E, and northern Norway (NN). Red circles are abattoirs and also sampling sites of the areas. The reindeer were transported to the nearest abattoirs
